Mayor Thompson: City of Vicksburg Secures Homeland Security Grant to Strengthen Public Safety
VICKSBURG, MS – Mayor Willis Thompson announced today that the Vicksburg Police Department has been awarded a $31,500 grant from the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security. The funds, provided through the Homeland Security Grant Program, will be used to purchase new equipment that enhances the city’s ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from security threats and emergencies.
“Public safety is one of our top priorities, and grants like this one help provide our officers with the tools and technologies they need to protect Vicksburg,” Mayor Thompson said. “These funds will directly strengthen our ability to respond to emergencies, prevent and solve crime, and protect our citizens.”
The Homeland Security Grant Program is designed to help local jurisdictions strengthen preparedness, improve intelligence sharing, and expand response capabilities to protect citizens and property. With these funds, the city will be able to invest in critical equipment that directly supports emergency response, disaster readiness, and counter-terrorism efforts.
“As we work to grow Vicksburg, we must work to make Vicksburg a safer community for all residents and visitors,” said Mayor Thompson. “This grant will most definitely help to accomplish that goal.”
The Homeland Security Grant Program is administered by the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security in coordination with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
