VICKSBURG, Miss. — Four victims were recovered during a human trafficking enforcement operation conducted in Vicksburg last week, according to Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch.

The operation, known as Operation Liberty Shield, was carried out May 28 by the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Task Force in partnership with several local and state law enforcement agencies.

Investigators and prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Office worked alongside officers from Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control, the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department during the operation.

The Center for Violence Prevention assisted by providing support services and treatment resources to the victims recovered during the investigation.

Fitch said the operation reflects the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies across Mississippi to combat human trafficking and provide assistance to victims.

“My office is committed to building a network of law enforcement trained in the best techniques for taking down human trafficking operations and helping victims start the road to recovery,” Fitch said in a statement.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, 648 federal, state and local law enforcement officers have received specialized human trafficking training through the task force program.

Operation Liberty Shield marks the 64th multi-jurisdictional operation conducted by the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Unit. Since the task force was established, officials report that operations have led to the recovery of 391 victims and 204 arrests, while generating numerous investigative leads related to trafficking activity.

The Attorney General’s Office encourages law enforcement agencies interested in participating in the Human Trafficking Task Force or other specialized task forces to contact the office for additional information.
