A local situation involving allegations that a 46-year-old Vicksburg business owner used a messaging app to communicate with someone presented as a 16-year-old girl has sparked widespread discussion on social media and renewed concerns about the dangers minors face online.
According to information circulating publicly, the conversations allegedly began through social media before becoming increasingly sexual in nature. More than 65 screenshots, purportedly documenting the exchanges, have been widely shared online over the past 48 hours. Since this has been brought to the public eye, over 20 new allegations, about this same person, have been brought to either the police department, sheriff’s department, or AG’s office attention as of the morning of August 6, 2026.
The messages appear to show the conversation beginning casually before progressing to explicit sexual discussions. According to those sharing the screenshots, an undercover individual identifying as a 16-year-old repeatedly female referenced being underage and also mentioned having a 13-year-old sister. The messages continued despite those references and included discussions of hypothetical sexual scenarios involving the minors.
The individual at the center of the claims has responded via facebook saying he was “hacked”. His account has since been deleted.
His family also responded via Facebook, “I don’t even know what to say. My world feels shattered into a million pieces, I’m sick to my stomach. This is not the first time hearing of Joey doing questionable things behind his phone but it’s definitely the first of hearing about it with an underage child. I am only posting on here because I want everyone to know that neither me, my mom or my brother would ever engage in such disgust. Please don’t flood our phones with questions. We see your concern on how we are, but until you’ve had to take in what we’ve had to take in the passed 24 hours you just won’t understand how we are feeling. I don’t even know how to explain how I feel. It doesn’t just absolutely shock me, but I really didn’t think he would take it far enough to a minor. I truly hope things are going to be done about this. I most definitely do not want it swept under the rug. I truly hope nobody thinks of us in that type of way. This is one of the worst things I think could happen to anyone. I’ll never understand how he could risk everything he’s worked for and our reputations for sexual encounters. I’m so sorry that everyone had to read those messages and feel the sickness in your stomach afterwards… “.

Grooming frequently begins with compliments, shared interests, or emotional support before progressing to more personal or sexually explicit conversations.
Parents are encouraged to maintain open communication with their children about online activity, review privacy settings on social media accounts, and discuss the risks of communicating with strangers online, even when those individuals appear friendly or familiar.
Authorities also advise preserving any messages, screenshots, or other digital evidence if inappropriate contact with a minor is suspected. Such material may be important if a report is made to law enforcement.
