Charlene Partlow Short, 83, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on November 15, 1941, in Lake, Mississippi, to Charles Robert Partlow and Sarah Christine Melton.
Charlene is survived by her loving daughter, Trina Short Lacombe; sister, Cathy Austin and husband Bruce, and their son Lazarus; grandchildren Samantha Tarnabine Tench (Tim), Jason Tarnabine (Sheila), Jacob Tarnabine, Brayden Stokes, and Easton Lacombe; and great-grandchildren Katilynn, Bella, Claire, Timmy, and JJ, Son-in-laws Joseph Tarnabine and Paul Stokes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Short, and daughters Anita Tarnabine and Sharon Stokes.
Charlene worked for over twenty years at the International Paper Mill Canteen alongside her dear friend Jerry Brown, where she was affectionately known as the canteen matriarch. She was a friendly face and a comforting presence to everyone who came through.
Before moving to Baton Rouge, Charlene was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed simple pleasures — good conversation, fellowship, and spending time with her dear friend Milton Pettway and his extended family, who became like her own.
Charlene will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared so freely with everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, faith, and family that will be cherished forever.
A funeral service will be held service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025. at Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
